The Portsmouth Technical College had owned an Elliott 803b computer since the 1960's. In the early 1970's, the 803b was transferred from the computing department to the electrical engineering department.
Shortly after this transfer, an IBM 1620 computer was acquired from the local Dockyard training college with a view to connecting the two computers together. Transporting the 1620 to its new home was not an easy task because of the lack of equipment to move such a heavy computer. So after two days with spanners and screwdrivers, we had card frames out, power supplies and many other items removed so the machine could be moved piece by piece. Even then it took many people to lift the bare frame.
More to follow soon on the integration of the 803 with the 1620.
